Hi, I am The Legally Blind Guy, and my name is Kaleem Khan

I’m registered as blind, I’m a lawyer and I’m a guy – hence the hugely creative name…

This is my blog, intended to raise awareness of sight impairment and disability; as well as the day to day challenges individuals with sight impairment and disabilities face, and how these can be overcome!

In my life I have concluded that there are three connected and recurring themes which can make or break my experience doing day to day “ordinary” things. You will therefore notice that all of my posts relate to these themes to some extent or other.

3 white canes cris-crossing one antoher like a six pointed star. The handle of each white cane is on the left hand side and the end of the canes with the roller ball are at the right hand side. The first white cane has its handle at the top left and its end at the bottom right moving diagonally across the page. The second white cane is horizontal and starts in the middle left of the image and ends at the middle right. It intersects the other two white canes. The final white cane starts on the bottom left and ends at the top right. At the end of each white cane are words. From top right to bottom right they say: Awareness & Education; people and attitudes; and providing support. These are the three key messages and objectives of the webiste and blog.

What's this blog got to do with me, I can see just fine?

Hmm…interesting question. I have two questions for you.

1. Are you sight impaired? Have you ever known anyone, met anyone, seen anyone, worked with anyone or loved anyone with a sight impairment?

2. Can you unequivocally say that you will never become sight impaired or that you will never know, meet, see, work with or love someone with a sight impairment in the future?

Unfortunately, I’m guessing your answer to question 1 is yes, and question 2 is no, right?  This blog is relevant to all of us! Even if it’s just age related sight loss, sight impairment is something none of us  can cut out of our lives completely,  and that is just the rubbish part of life.

We can, however, make ourselves more aware & educated, help to change people & attitudes surrounding sight impairment and  provide support  to sight impaired individuals, with the aim of making more day to day “ordinary” activities truly ordinary for sight impaired people!

Plus, by reading my posts, you may get an answer to some of those questions you’ve always wanted to know the answer to but not felt comfortable enough to ask….

So, what else is there to say? Other than please enjoy the blog, feel free to follow me and please pass the blog on! I hope you leave this sight knowing more about sight impairment and disability than when you came here – which is the whole point!
